Your brain is more powerful

I listened to Mel Robbins interviewing neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Dody and had to share it with you. There’s a lot to unpack, yet it is very down to earth and his demeanor touched my heart. I will write more about this interview in future messages. For now, I want to point out four simple steps to retrain your brain. I was surprised at how simple they are. Simple and powerful if done consistently.

We have a remarkable power to re-program our brain. We all experience negative self-talk. Every time we allow it to badger or deflate our thinking, it builds walls, adding another brick. Negative self-talk affects how we view ourselves and the world. Dr. Dody said, “we all have the key in our pocket to let ourselves out of the prison.”

We have more control and power over our self-talk than we may think. We can rewire our thinking if we want things to change, to get better. I sometimes find myself stumped by a situation, knowing that to achieve what I’d like to have happen, it’s going to take a lot of mental energy, time and attention, and other people. Now, I’m going to use Dr. Dody’s recommended four steps. It has already shifted my thinking about what I can do.

To manifest what you want and unlock unlimited possibilities, do these four steps:

Write down what you want.
Read it to yourself.
Read it aloud.
Visualize it.

Do this over and over to embed it in your brain. Repetition retrains your brain to accept and believe it. Dody said by using all your sensory organs, the repetition embeds the intention into your subconscious. Your brain recognizes that this deserves its attention.

I recommend listening to the interview. It’s 1:15 on YouTube. I listened in chunks, not all at once. Many have listened to it multiple times. I hope you will be touched by it as I was.

P.S. I learned today that Dr James Dody died in July 2025. What a loss for this world.
