You know the old saying: If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten? That may be good for some things in life, things that support your goals. But, what if you want or need a change?
I learned the hard way years ago that my morning flow was out of whack. I’d start out fine getting ready, but when it was time to leave, usually down to the wire, I would run around the house searching for my keys. It was stressful and annoying. I had the habit of dropping my keys wherever I stopped for a moment on my way in each evening. They could be at the front foyer, on a kitchen counter, in the bathroom, sometimes in a bizarre place. One morning, in a blazing hair-on-fire desperate search, afraid I’d really be late, I said to myself THAT’S IT. I can’t keep doing this.
That evening, I found a wooden bowl I particularly liked, placed it on a counter near the door and placed my keys in it. I swore to myself then and there that I would always place my keys in that bowl. No matter what. What a difference it made! The relief and ease were palpable each morning as I headed out. I realized I had been causing my own chaos with my thoughtless habit that had developed over the years.
If you want to change something about what you do or want to achieve, it’s vital that you step out of your routine. Maybe it’s something you do yourself or maybe it involves others. Open your eyes. Allow yourself to look at things through a different lens. Listen with a truly open mind and heart. Shift your perspective.
You have ideas and answers within you. Give yourself the opportunity to try something new or different. You may be surprised at what’s possible. It’s time to unlock what will bring relief and ease.
