Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated? David Bader I chuckled when I read that. It’s so true, so important. Yet hard for some, including me. As we listen to what someone is saying, our brains want to dart elsewhere, distracted by a thought, a site, a sound. Or mentally launch into what we want to say when they’re done. Deliberate attention reins your brain back in, doesn’t it? It’s a sign of respect whether with one person or a group. I remind myself how I feel when I’m talking and listeners are distracted. It’s not a good feeling. So, what can you do this week to practice “be here now” in meetings and when talking with a specific someone? |
