Week Four of Six
Insight:
“Seek to find their hopes and dreams. Begin building a bridge between the vision of the organization and their personal goals. Done correctly, both can be accomplished.”
from Develop the Leader Within You by John C. Maxwell
Coaching:
Think about a time when someone helped you see the connection between your hopes and dreams and the organization’s vision. How did they do it? What did they say or do that enabled you to see that what you wanted to achieve was achievable?
Think about your people and the bridge. Do you know what your people’s hopes and dreams are? Do you think your people believe that their hopes and dreams matter to the organization? Do you see how their aspirations can be tied to the organization’s goals?
Think about your organization and its goals. Is the vision of the organization clear enough that people can see themselves in it? What connections could be made between what they want in their future and what the organization is focused on achieving?
Action:
This week, start with yourself. What are your personal and professional hopes and dreams? Consider how they are, or could be, tied to the organization’s vision.
How does knowing your hopes and dreams strengthen your connection to your organization? What are the strengths? Where are the gaps?
What is one actionable step you could take to build more of a connection between your vision and the organization’s? Once you have done this for yourself, you can better help your people with their connections.
Next week I will share with you the #5 insight. Until then…
